Senior Patrol Leader

Requirements:

  • Be Star Rank or above.
  • Attend at least  50% of all troop activities
  • Attend at least 50% of all campouts
  • Preside at all troop meetings, events, activities, and annual program planning conference
  • Chair the patrol leaders’ council
  • Appoint Scout leaders with the advice and consent of the scoutmaster.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to other Scout leaders.
  • Work with the scoutmaster in training Scout Leaders.
  • Set and enforce the tone for good Scout behaviour within the troop
  • Set a good example
  • Wear the scout uniform correctly
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Scout Law
  • Show and help develop Scout Spirit.

The SPL is to be chosen by the Scouts. The candidates should be given the opportunity of speaking to the Troop and giving a speech regarding their suitability for selection and their intentions if selected.

The vote should be by secret ballot and should be by a majority of greater than 50 % of the scouts present. If more than 2 scouts stand for election and no one scout gains more than 50% of the votes there is to be a ‘run off’ election between the two scouts with the most votes in the initial election. The Troop is not to be informed of which scout had the most votes prior to the run off election.
